Do Lush Deodorants Contain Aluminum?

In fact, it’s doing exactly what it’s meant to do: eliminating toxins from our bodies and regulating our inner temperatures. But, hey, we’re only human and sometimes we want to cover up those unsightly stains and odors. So, do deodorants made without aluminum actually work?

Many antiperspirants are designed to thwart sweat and odor using aluminum compounds. Ingredients like aluminum chlorohydrate and aluminum zirconium act like plugs and block your sweat glands to stop the flow of sweat. However, the compounds can be absorbed by your skin, which can cause a hormonal imbalance in your body.

How do natural deodorants work?

Most natural deodorants contain absorbent powders that help blot up excess moisture in these areas to contain it from the get-go. Our deodorants all have different formulas, but the foundation of each are powders like sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), charcoal, magnesium trisilicate or magnesium carbonate. T'eo is actually a solid bar of densely-compacted powders with a blue wax base to rest upon and hold it in place. These kinds of powdery ingredients don’t stop you from sweating, but they do absorb and control sweat’s effects.

Other natural ingredients like witch hazel and chamomile vinegar act as mild astringents on your pores, which can have a cooling effect on the area and help deter the need to sweat. However, while the powders help with moisture, your body is still allowed to do its thing and function naturally.

What about the smell?

Sweat itself doesn’t actually have much of a scent. When it hits the surface of our skin and combines with bacteria and other microflora living on us, stink happens. It can be magnified in areas of the body covered by hair, or tucked in crevices, like the armpit. All kinds of things can influence our stink factor and the biggest one of these we can’t control is genetics: some of us are just more pungent than others. The key to natural deodorants is that they all contain powerful essential oils that perfume the skin for lasting effect. We choose oils specifically for a soothing effect on the skin as well as long-lasting potency in keeping body odor in check. That’s why you’ll find long-lasting patchouli in Aromaco Deodorant—it’s a fragrance that sticks to the skin.

If you're switching over to Lush deodorants from an antiperspirant, be patient. There might be a bit of an adjustment period >finding the right deodorant that works for you and learning how to use them. Patience and a few extra applications during the first week or two, will help you win the battle. After about two weeks, the body usually finds its groove and most people never look back.
